W. Spilman Short, Jr., Principal
Mr. Short is responsible for implementing the company’s acquisition strategy and directing transactional activities for assets under management. The primary functions of this role are procuring and expanding direct seller relationships to source off-market transactions, managing the company’s broker network and expanding the company’s base of institutional equity partners.
Prior to forming DRV, Mr. Short held numerous leadership roles with both prominent real estate organizations as well as his own entrepreneurial ventures. He began his career in 1981 in commercial leasing and management, first with Elam & Funsten and then with Paragon Group. In 1988, Mr. Short co-founded Short & Mattox, Inc. where he concentrated on tenant representation and personally produced over $20,000,000 in sales and leasing volume in one year. Mr. Short left Short & Mattox to join Property Resources in 1994 as a founding Principal for their Virginia operations. There, Mr. Short was responsible for enlarging the sales, leasing and consulting department, and continuing the company’s philosophy of superior service in Virginia. In this role, he produced over $150,000,000 in gross sales and leasing volume. Subsequently, Property Resources was sold to CB Richard Ellis in 1997.
Mr. Short is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Business Administration and Management.
Elliot M. Liffman, Principal
Mr. Liffman’s primary area of responsibility is executing the firm’s investment activity. In this role, Mr. Liffman oversees the analysis, underwriting, due diligence, financing and management of the firm’s real estate assets.
Mr. Liffman has been instrumental in the firm’s acquisition and development of over $150 million worth of diversified properties, comprised of nearly one million square feet of commercial space and 800 multifamily units. Prior to co-founding DRV’s predecessor, Realty Capital Company, Mr. Liffman served as a consultant to Charles E. Smith Commercial Realty, working with management to develop strategies for utilizing the Internet as a medium for managing tenant relationships and increasing tenant satisfaction.
Mr. Liffman graduated from Emory University with a BA in Economics and earned an MBA from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
